The committee behind the colleges
Registered as the Badvel & Sidhout Higher Education Committee — one family's five-decade project to put education at the rural doorstep.
The Badvel & Sidhout Higher Education Committee was founded in 1973 by Late Shri Bijivemula Veera Reddy — former Minister for Minor Irrigation, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry in the united Andhra Pradesh government — with an aim he stated plainly: to provide education at the rural doorstep.
What began with junior and degree education in Badvel grew, decade by decade, into a group of institutions covering nearly every step a rural student can take: intermediate at SKP Junior College, arts, science and commerce degrees at the aided and un-aided wings of SBVR Degree College (est. 1979), teacher training at SBVR College of Education (est. 1984–85), physical education at Smt Narayanamma College, and — since 2016 — a full agricultural college affiliated to ANGRAU and accredited by ICAR.
The committee does not only run classrooms. It works as an interface between campus and public — partnering welfare and development programmes with a vision to build a strong and sustainable society, and keeping fees within reach of the farming families it was founded to serve.
After the founder's passing in 2000, his daughter Smt. K. Vijaya — former M.L.A. of the Badvel Assembly constituency — assumed the presidency in 2001 and leads the committee today, with Mr. K. Ritheesh Kumar Reddy as Secretary. Meet the leadership →
